Long ago, there lived a poor Brahmin and his wife in a small village.
The couple lived a very simple life. Their financial condition was so difficult that arranging even their daily food could sometimes become challenging.

When Kajari Teej arrived in the month of Bhadrapada, she decided to observe the sacred Teej vrat.

While he was doing so, the noise inside the shop alerted the people nearby.
The merchant's servants woke up and believed that a thief had entered the shop.
They quickly caught the Brahmin and brought him before the merchant.
The merchant naturally wanted to know why the Brahmin had entered his shop at night.
The frightened Brahmin explained his situation truthfully.

He said that his wife was observing the Kajari Teej vrat and had asked him to bring sattu for the ritual. Because he was extremely poor and had no money, he had been unable to purchase it.

The merchant decided to check his statement.
When the Brahmin was searched, nothing except the ingredients or sattu required for the vrat was found with him.
